Liturgical

Liturgical Ministries

These ministries are carried out by stewards {volunteers}. Once a year, sign up sheets containing all the areas where stewards are needed in the parish are handed out and parishioners fill out the areas they would like to participate in. From these lists, schedules are prepared. Training will be available as required for the ministers.

Sacristan

The Sacristan is someone who is willing to learn the local liturgical procedures, to set up and prepare for liturgical celebrations, and to care for the linens and vessels.

Ushers

Ushers are required at Mass to seat parishioners when necessary, and to distribute the weekly bulletin. Ushers take up the collection and help organize the Offertory Procession. They carry the collection in the Procession. They also check the pews after Mass and collect any left behind articles and straighten the song books. Usher should arrive at church 15 minutes before Mass. Schedules are made for a block of time in advance and can be found at the entrance to the church or on the website. schedule

Lectors

The lectors proclaim the word of God during the Celebration of the Mass. We use two lectors and they should arrive at church 15 minutes before Mass to prepare for the Procession. Schedules are made for a block of time and can found at the entrance to the church or on the website. schedule

Ministers of Bread and Cup

These ministers help the Pastor administer bread and wine during communion at Mass. We usually use five ministers, 4 for the cup and 1 for bread and they should arrive at church 15 minutes before Mass to prepare for the Procession. Ministers are responsible to wash the vessels after Communion. Schedules are made for a block of time in advance and can be found at the entrance to the church or on the website schedule.

Altar servers

The altar servers consist of boys and girls who have received the sacraments of initiation. There are training sessions when new children become interested in serving. Parents can call the office at 306- 764 4637 for information. The altar servers get together every four to six weeks for a social event.

Ministry to Shut Ins

Our parish has been involved with Ministry to the Shut-ins since 1984 either on an individual basis or at a facility. This ministry has changed over the years and at present the teams provide a short service and communion to some carehomes with in our parish:

There are two long term care facilities that are not in our parish, however we do  visit these homes. The Herb Bassett Home is a scheduled Sunday every month while Mont St. Joseph Home is the first Sunday.

Teams are assigned to the various facilities. Volunteers are always needed to give of their time and talents to fulfill this ministry. For further information contact the parish office.
